Mid-Town Journal is first published.

It is published by Frederick Shibley, initially from his mother’s rooming house at 40 Union Park, then from offices at 37 – 41 Rutland Street. The eight-page weekly describes itself as covering “The unbelievable panorama of life in one of the most fantastic sections of the United States—the South End of Boston.” It becomes known for hundred-word leads and a tongue-in-cheek gossip column/police blotter column that Shibley writes under the name Iben Snupin. Circulation reaches 60,000 by the late 1940s, The last issue appears on June 6, 1966.
